We would like Polished Concrete for our new home, do you lay the concrete or do we need to source our own concrete supplier ?
Spot on Floors does not prepare/install the concrete substrate, we recommend you source a company that specializes in supplying polished concrete. Most concrete suppliers will have their own concreters that have experience in preparing a substrate for polished concrete. Call us and we can recommend a concrete supplier.
We like the look of white polished concrete, how can we achieve this look?
If you already have an existing slab, unfortunately we are unable to change the colour of the concrete or the colour of the aggregates in the slab. We can only work with what is present in the slab if choosing the high end Mechanical Polish Concrete.
If you are building a new home and you like the idea of having different colour concrete, you are in a good position. Most concrete suppliers will have their own selection of types of coloured concrete and aggregates in the mix.
If choosing a grind and seal option, a special dye or coloured sealer can be used to transform your existing floor.
When can you start polishing the concrete?
Concrete needs approximately 28 days to cure before we can begin grinding. Depending on the time frame, we can complete the process entirely at once. When the framing has been completed and before the Gyprock is applied.
My existing concrete has cracks in it, can this be fixed?
We can not remove the cracks in the slab, what we do is inject the crack with grout filling the hole to give it a seamless appearance.
How slippery is Polished Concrete?
Polishing Concrete is not much different from a porcelain tile. The smooth mirror like finish is deceiving to the eye yet is safe to walk on if kept clean and dry. Treat Polished Concrete like other flooring options by cleaning up spills, drips immediately.
My existing Polished Concrete has some damage in some areas, can you repair?
Yes. Depending on the damage it could be a simple grind or an extensive grind and re-seal. We will endeavor to present to you the best options that we think will save you time and money.
Can I install floor insulation in Polished Concrete substrate?
Yes, floor heating insulation can be installed into the slab that will later be polished. Grinding of the slab should not affect the insulation as typically only 3-4mm of the surface is removed.
Can I polish the concrete that has had Tiles as the Floor covering?
Generally Yes, but in some cases however grout lines can appear through the floor that can be difficult to remove. It is hard to determine if these lines can be removed and there are no guarantees. There are alternative flooring solutions we can suggest.
